How long does it take to become a foster parent in the UK?

Children and adolescents of various ages and backgrounds who are temporarily unable to stay with their birth parents enter foster care associates. It can be because of a family member's illness, the breakdown of the family, problems at home, or a situation where their well-being is in jeopardy. Numerous individuals have likely experienced neglect, abuse, or all three.

The first step is to fill out our online form and provide us with your information after deciding to foster children or after wanting to learn more about fostering. We will be by your side on your journey to becoming a foster care provider at every turn.

How to become foster families or foster parents?

When you apply to become a foster parent or foster families, the process starts. It is over when the fostering organization makes a decision. The process could take up to 8 months to complete.

  • To apply as a foster parent, contact your local community council or a private fostering agency. One fostering agency is the only one you can register with.

  • The council or agency has mandated that you take a fostering education course.

  • All adults who live with you must successfully complete a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check that has been upgraded with barred lists.

  • A social worker assesses your household and you to see if you meet the requirements to look after a kid.

  • You make any preferences you may have for the children you'll be watching known, such as their age or gender. A foster child cannot be chosen from a group of kids and is not eligible for a trial term.

  • The foster care organisation reviews your application. You need to show up in front of their panel, which will make a recommendation.

  • The fostering service evaluates and decides on your application.
